Which laundry detergent should I use, liquid or powder?

Choose the one that best fits your lifestyle, but you may want to keep both on hand. Liquid laundry detergents tend to be better at removing oily and greasy stains and are excellent for pretreating stains. Powder detergents tend to work better on mud and clay.

How do I get the best cleaning performance for my laundry?

We suggest these steps to achieve the best cleaning results:
  1. Sort your clothes before laundering, and wash similar colours together.
  2. Pretreat obvious stains.
  3. Always follow fabric care labels for laundering instructions.
  4. Use the warmest water safe for the garments (be sure to check care tags).
  5. The way you fill your machine is also important. We suggest that you:
    • Start the water in your washer.
    • Add Cheer.
    • Then add your clothes.
  6. Use the amount of Cheer recommended below. Use more Cheer if you have very hard water, large loads, heavy soils, or a large-capacity washer.
  7. Do not overload your washer or dryer.

How much Cheer should I use in my laundry?

The easiest way to measure the right amount of Cheer is to use the scoop in the carton of Cheer powder or the measuring cap on Cheer liquid laundry detergent. If you don't have these, we suggest the following:
Powder Cheer: medium load ~3/8 cup; large load ~1/2 cup
Liquid Cheer: medium load ~1/5 cup; large load ~1/4 cup

Can I use chlorine bleach with Cheer laundry detergent?

Yes. If you wish to use chlorine bleach, it should be added to the bleach dispenser in the washer or added five minutes after the wash cycle begins.

Can I wash clothes in cold water?

Cheer offers outstanding cleaning in any water temperature.

How does Cheer laundry detergent protect my clothes?

Cheer helps protect your clothes because:
  • Cheer cleans in any water temperature, which means you can wash your fabrics in cold water.
  • Cheer liquid helps prevent naturally occurring chlorine from reacting with your clothes, a process that makes your clothes look worn and faded.
  • Cheer neutralizes the chlorine in tap water to reduce the fading it causes.
  • Some dyes bleed in the wash because of their type of dye or the way the dye was applied. While Cheer liquid detergent can't prevent these dyes from bleeding, it can help prevent them from settling back on other garments in the wash load. Following fabric care tag instructions also helps prevent this type of dye transfer. Remember, to help protect your favourite colours, follow fabric care tag instructions and wash with Cheer liquid laundry detergent.

Should my bottle or box of Cheer be filled to the top?

No. Packages are filled by weight, not by volume.
  • Liquids need space at the top to help with pouring.
  • Powders may settle during shipment, leaving some space at the top of the carton.
Compaction General

Will I be able to find Cheer non-compacted powder after February 2011?

No, our hope is to fully complete the conversion to compacted Cheer powder detergent in North America in February 2011.
Compaction – Product/Formulation

What does 1/3 compacted mean? Will the dosing change?

1/3 compacted means that Cheer is now offered in a compacted formula with outstanding performance at 1/3 less per dose. For example, the new 40 load carton that is 1/3 compacted does the same number of loads as the previous 40 load carton of non-compacted product. The difference is that the new Cheer compacted formula is more efficient, allowing for a smaller package that is both convenient for the consumer and is a right step for the environment.

With the new Cheer compacted formula, we recommend that consumers use 1/3 less of the amount of detergent as used with our previous non-compacted powder detergents. This lower dosage amount is reflected in a new scoop size that has decreased by 1/3 to reflect the new product dosing recommendations. The usage instructions included on the package have also been updated to reflect the change.

With the move to compacted powder detergent, has cleaning performance changed?

Cheer compacted powder detergent will offer outstanding performance.

Will the new, compacted formula be more likely to damage your clothing during the wash cycle?

No. The new Cheer compacted powder formula was created to give colour protection and care for your clothes and all of your washed fabrics.
